Project Overview

For this contemporary apartment design in Tavira, the project aimed to cultivate a serene, low-maintenance living environment that balances modern functionality with authentic Portuguese charm. The space needed to effortlessly accommodate focused remote working within a calming aesthetic framework.

Design Concept & Atmosphere

The core philosophy centres on tranquillity and ease of living. The apartment serves as a restful sanctuary, drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings of the Algarve. The design prioritises clean lines softened by tactile elements, ensuring spaces feel inviting but remain completely effortless to maintain.

Colour & Material Palette

• Dominant Tones: A harmonious blend of muted greens, reflecting local olive groves, paired with warm amber to introduce a comforting, sunlit glow.
• Soft Textures: Washed linen, brushed cotton, and subtle bouclé will be used across upholstery and window treatments to create a relaxed, highly tactile environment.
• Practical Finishes: High-traffic areas will feature durable, easy-care surfaces. Performance fabrics will be specified for seating, whilst matte-finish cabinetry will be utilised to resist everyday wear and fingerprints.

Functional Spatial Requirements

Home Workspace: A dedicated, ergonomic zone designed to minimise visual clutter. This area requires optimal natural light, integrated cable management, and bespoke closed storage to allow professional work to be entirely hidden away at the end of the day.

Cultural Integration with Traditional Portuguese Concepts

• Azulejos: Incorporating subtly patterned or textured ceramic tiles in the kitchen or bathrooms, utilising muted greens to seamlessly tie into the contemporary colour story.
• Cork Elements: Utilising local, sustainable Portuguese cork for its excellent acoustic benefits, particularly in the music room, as well as its warm, textural appearance.
• Terracotta and Handcrafted Ceramics: Introducing amber tones through locally sourced pottery and natural terracotta planters, grounding the contemporary design in regional artisan heritage.
